Home Repairs

All I can say is Thank God for YouTube! It has saved me so much money by teaching me how to repair the various pieces of equipment in my household. From my recollection, the first time that I utilized YouTube was to repair my washing machine. It was rocking more than Elvis. I quickly decided that paying a repairman would be an insult to my masculinity. It's also part of the guy code. The sensible among us (women) would call someone that actually knew what they were doing but not us. We do things on our own. Getting back to the repair, it went okay and I was able to fix it, sort of. Well..it didn't rock anymore! I love doing things on my own. It's fun to learn how things work and how to put them back together. Usually I end up with extra parts but those quickly get tossed. Out of sight out of my, you know. My greatest accomplishment in the field of home repairs wasn't an actual repair. It was more of an improvement. After having kids I realized that I needed a fence around my yard. We live on a semi-busy road and you know how kids are. I was originally going to have an "expert" install my fence but that quickly changed when I saw the cost. If I did it on my own all I would need was a post hole digger, the wood, and some blood, sweat and tears. There was no blood luckily but lots of sweat and some tears. Mainly from exhaustion. Also, I borrowed my father-in-law's post hole digger that came with their house. The house was built in the early 1700s. Needless to say I have since invested in a new post hole digger. But I was able to erect a relatively straight fence that is still standing! And as a bonus all of my posts have remained straight. Having achieved the mastery of home repairs I looked for a new field to break into. Car repair. I fixed my windshield wipers (actually, they just randomly starting working after I fiddled around with the fuse) and even tried to fix the heated seats in my wife's car. I was able to not repair the seats and as a fun little bonus, now the heated steering wheel doesn't work. But that's okay, now our hands and butts can be cold together. I loved that heated wheel, such a great invention. Gentlemen, take my advice and do things on your own. It won't end up perfect, more like Tim Taylor's repairs, but you'll feel great doing it. And maybe you'll score some points with your better half as you play the part of the sexy repairman.
